Model X Founder Series - Facts part 3

If I had more patience - or say a spare Signature edition ;) - I would have waited a bit longer too to get the early issues resolved. I wonder what your VIN will end up, maybe 70 range?
  • Jan 20, 2016
    bonnie
That did make it a little easier :). I have to admit that I'm itching to press the Confirm button. I'm guessing my VIN will be in the 70s - we'll see.

Denver has a "staging area" in an abandoned Safeway near the service center (that normally does the deliveries). I was messaged by someone last week who saw my car, he thinks, there (same color inside/out). I drove by the other night and do see a Signature Red Model X in there through a crack in the doors (as all the normal windows are painted over). My DS was coy when I asked about it and he said logistics had not released the car to them, but didn't deny my intel.

Not sure how long the car has been or will continue to be in this purgatory. My delivery window on the site says late-Dec to end of January. Could my car have been sitting there for weeks?
  • Jan 22, 2016
    jsollender
it's a mixed bag...Like you all, I too would probably be thoroughly peeved if my car was waiting in my home town in limbo land waiting for SC to make sure everything is perfect, but also wanting to take delivery. We've been waiting for a long time, and knowing it is close is worse than not knowing. Probably have parts issues waiting from Fremont, as I really have a challenge believing cars are leaving Fremont with such problems. Again, I don't mind being further down the list with a 90D, and hopefully by "mid-2016" they will have enough spare parts and better QC that cars leaving Fremont will not need as much pre-delivery monkeying around as you sigs, founders are witnessing. The silence from TMC is even worse....
  • Jan 22, 2016

Yes, there are many reports of X's sitting for weeks.

Todays phone call - the one Xpert could not get in today due to #blizzard2016. But there was a finding of a bad falcon door sensor which has been ordered. More news in a couple days. Baby has been here over a week, will be two for sure. And don't know how many more in the shop and the poor Xpert has to work through hours of 'inspection' steps on each. What is this? Maybe an export of work to the field to off load the factory?

    g-force
Also depends how hard you push. mine arrived on a Friday morning. in Chicago. driver scrapped 2 wheels and tires they wanted to refinish wheels I said BS
they flew in 2 new wheels/tires delivery Monday 10 am
  • Jan 26, 2016
    g-force
I personally think it is because the owner is not on top of situation. If you call them every day they will be anxious to deliver it so you
won't be calling them every day!
  • Jan 26, 2016
    Uncgolf
I guess I need to go from emailing daily to calling...3 weeks now "last I heard it was in transit" How do you get a new DS?
  • Jan 26, 2016
    bonnie
Pointing out the obvious - if every owner is calling every day, no one will get anything. All their time will be spent answering the phone.

The reality is that the DS would love to deliver every single car. It brings quarter delivery numbers up, it means happy customers (instead of terse communications), and makes money for the company.

So it's clearly not any individual DS holding things up. Everyone is experiencing the same delays.

  • Jan 26, 2016
    Uncgolf
A lot of Founders by Referral owners have posted over the last 6 weeks about their X's: DS reports "its in production"...They report its "out of paint"...They report that is shipped and should arrive on Monday..etc. etc. Says prep should take xx days

My DS has never reached out to me. When I call or email he has not heard anything about my X... a few weeks later "thinks its in production". over 2 weeks ago "he thinks its shipped" will look into it and get back to me when he knows... He as never gotten back to me. Has no idea when it shipped or when its suppose to arrive. I assume that all DS are not equal. Most seem to have real information or take the time to find out.
  • Jan 26, 2016
    andrewket
Then call the delivery manager in your region and give them the feedback and ask for a new DS if you wish. I'm very disappointed with my experience thus far as well, but it really hasn't been the DS's fault. I honestly don't believe they have access to accurate and timely data like they do with the S. I wish they did. A little detailed communication would go a long way. I'm trying my best to stay patient, but my wife pokes me every day "so, where is my car, Mr. Tesla?"

It doesn't help that this is our third Tesla (I sold one) and in all three cases the delivery process was abnormal.

  • Jan 27, 2016
    Reeler
How damaged was it? Nothing like a new car with mismatched paint or poor bodywork. My wife bought a "new" car once that after a few years, the body work was pretty obvious.
  • Jan 28, 2016
    Uncgolf
No idea how bad the damage is, he said a dent in the rear hatch. They are sending a whole new door. My question is will a car fax show that its had damage?

Is there any downside for taking delivery and then bringing it in for the new door when it arrives?
  • Jan 28, 2016
    ptsagcy
I would GUESS that it will not show on carfax since it is unlikely that Tesla will put in an insurance claim. Might want to discuss with Tesla some monetary compensation for the devaluation if it shows up on Carfax.
  • Jan 28, 2016
    ohmman
My advice is that you should never take delivery of a vehicle that doesn't meet your expectations at that time. Don't take delivery of a flawed vehicle with the promise of repair. I fully trust Tesla to make it right for you, but stay pragmatic in the face of your excitement.
  • Jan 28, 2016
    andrewket
It will not show up on carfax. Regular dealers fix issues with new cars before putting them on their lots all the time.

Agree you should not take delivery unless 100% satisfied.

However, important to note that this is standard practice in the industry. I use to own a BMW and took it to the BMW certified repair shop after an accident. When I got there I was shocked to see so many new BMW's with the dealer sticker still on in the shop. when I spoke with my rep he told me they get dinged and damaged all the time during test drives and moving the vehicles so they have a steady flow and permanent contract.

What's worse is that when you buy a new car of the lot you have no idea (unless visible) whether or not the vehicle has been in an accident.
  • Jan 29, 2016

The part is "on rush" and should have "expedited shipping" should know something next week. Driving it and fixing it later was not an option.
  • Jan 30, 2016
    fiksegts
I will guess a month or more.... Tesla has real issues getting Model X parts out, especially something big like that with regards to packing it up and shipping it out... not to mention it has to be painted and finished before install.... :(

  • Jan 30, 2016
    andrewket
I haven't heard from my DS in a week, so I thought I'd check with NA sales at HQ just to see what they would say. The delivery estimate they gave me was mid Feb to March. Talk about missing the January delivery date. Why all of the other US FbR cars have been delivered and mine is still in California still remains a mystery.
  • Jan 30, 2016
    fiksegts
that is really odd, you confirmed right away?

  • Jan 30, 2016

My new tailgate arrived today at the local SC. They say it should take a week to put it on and do all the prep. If all things go without a hitch, I should get it a week from tomorrow. I was able to see it today and take it for a short test drive. I was very happy with the way the new leather seats look and feel and the front windshield is awesome. Ludicrous acceleration for a SUV is the bomb too.

F00058 is delivered. It's gorgeous! Super happy with it. The Sig red paint looks great. I'm really glad we got founders so we could get the Sig red again (after we dropped our original Sig reservation, which was picked up by Bonnie).

We took it for a short drive to Precision Film Solutions in Santa Ana to get paint armor and to test the windows to see if there's any need to add UV protection. It's hard getting it for just a few minutes and then giving it up for a few days again, but I don't want to get any rock chips or paint damage before it gets protected.

Funny. It's currently on our Honda Civic as a placeholder. The X is replacing our Lexus hybrid which has grandfathered clean fuel tags. I have to figure out how to get "TESLAX" (no space, because it won't fit on the clean energy tags) onto the a grandfathered tag. I assume they kept some amount of old stock for plates that are damaged. You can't call the normal DMV because the special fuel tags are all handled in Richmond.

I agree that if you're not planning to have solar, thats an issue. But it's not just trying to arbitrage an on-peak/off-peak delta. You can do that with solar alone, since on-peak is usually when the sun is shining. The real value is in the fact that most utilities buy electricity from solar at a rate far lower than what they sell. For example, my utility sells me electricity at $.11/KWh, but would only buy my excess at $.02/KWh. By storing my electricity in a Powerwall, I get its full value by not buying the electricity from the utility.

For some reason the software update for my X was prior to the Auto opening door update. They said they updated my car last night, but it does not have any of the auto opening controls. HmmHave all X owners gotten the newest software update?

  • Feb 16, 2016

#68, my rear hatch was dented during transportation. I had to wait a month for them to manufacture a new hatch, delivery it and then install it. Still not sure why I do not have the latest software though. I am on 7.1 (2.10.71) instead of 7.1 (2.11.54). In addition, my Tesla app does not recognize my X, so summons does not work.

I read somewhere it takes a few days for the system to update and record that you own the car and let the app work

The secret is to log out and log back into the tesla app to get the New X to show up. Also, Anyone know how to log out and back into of the 3rd party app Remote S..or how to get it to recognize a 2nd Tesla?

    Any news in Europe?

Last I heard was that I should be able to configure in the next month(s)... and delivery (not officially stated) could be expected Q3...
Would love to hear from anyone that has more info....
