I got a new update this am... I am scared to execute... Has anyone done it?

Assuming it's 7.1.2.28.19 it's a wide release. Lots of people have installed it don't know if it's been out long enough to know what changed. Keep track of it by going to the end of the following thread.
    Firmware 7.1

When and if you install it be sure to update Tesla Tracker

I just got one as well. It shows estimate time of 2 hours 38 minutes to install
It's the longest I've seen so far

In reality it takes just 30 minutes to install. See above post on where this discussion takes place.

I don't have a Tesla yet. Is this process similar to a Windows update? Does it download automatically and then one presses execute?

Generally the car just alerts you that an update is available and you tap the box on the screen to install or delay installation until a later time (can't update while driving )

    Yep, pretty much like that.

Nothing so far. I am at 7.24.30 on a non AP MS 85. I have been at this build for right at a month. Previously it seemed I was getting and update every couple of weeks.

Anyone with a Non AP Classic MS get the update this morning?

    Got the update as well.

My car is new and paid for AP. Disabling it would require refunds correct. I dont think they would disable it without communication. But my 1st update so i wouldn't know.

The update is downloaded silently. When the download is complete you receive a notice on the 17" screen -- and on your phone via Tesla's app, if such notifications are enabled -- and you can choose when to install it.

Each of the 11 notices on the 17" screen that I've had since my car was new has said it will take 1:40 to install, regardless of how long it will actually take. The one that I installed this morning, 2.28.19, took 30 minutes after the prelude, a 2-minute countdown.

After installing, please update the Tesla Firmware Upgrade Tracker Web App at http://ev-fw.com/track-reports.php

You are alerted via the Tesla app and your car that a software update is available, and then you can schedule an exact time for this to download and install (i.e. when you're sleeping or otherwise not using the vehicle for an hour or 2). My iPhone requires me to download/install only when I am using my device, can't schedule it :)

2.18.19 the Autopilot I still having problem reacting to people on bicycles, motorbikes no problem. The do not turn up in the display as motorbikes do. I have to step in to avoid hitting cycliest from behind. Thats an improvment Tesla has to work on.

I installed xxx.19 update yesterday and found that summon no longer works with the key fob. I had two updates in two days so the first one may have changed this feature. Now summon works only from phone app.

I have 2.24.30 on refreshed S. It occasionally hunts on the highway but otherwise stable. Could just be me, but I think the thing has learned to take curves much better. On two separate highways I use, one with a 45 mph curve and the other with a 65 mph curve the car doesn't flinch! Three weeks ago the car (or was it me?:)) couldn't handle either one without intervention.

New update reverted my summon to the default setting (button must be held the whole time) not a big deal because I just reset it to the original setting.

Bigger deal is now summon won't work from my keyfob. Hold the roof and nothing......that sucks because I don't much like using the app for summon.

It appears that update have been getting pushed out for a number of days now. I am in a 2014 MS pre AP. In recent months I have been getting regular update. This time perhaps the "Classic" MS is not included. I am currently at 2.24.30. Anyone else with a Classic MS that had 2.24.30 get the update?

I should have been more clear:

By this I mean I turned off "Require Continuous Press". The Keyfob still does not function for summon.

Where is the "Require Continuous Press" option? I just got my MS a few days ago and can't find it under the Summon "Customize" button. Is this a UK restriction? Would love to be able to use it via the fob for when I don't have signal on my phone (e.g. car parks...)

Any way of telling from the App (or any app) what version of soft/firm ware is running? Or is this something you can only check from the in-car screen?

Not installing an update won't help in this situation. When I had mine switched off in Hong Kong some months ago, it was done with an "invisible" software update. It just happened. No install button, there was no choice.

Just drove about 200 miles mostly on AP today (mix of big freeways and smaller highways). I'd say it performed pretty much just like normal. Although on the freeway it completely lost the lines and ended up straddling two lanes until it got back into one of them. I've never seen that happen before although the lines weren't that great and I probably haven't been on that road with AP before.

Also it was kind of strange. On the highway on AP there were cars stopped at a light and the collision warning alarm went off before AP had a chance to slow down. I'm not sure exactly since I quickly hit the brakes.

Glad to hear it, as someone who routinely uses summon-from-fob. I know a lot of people poo-poo summon, but some of us make
good use of it on a near-daily basis.

It'd be kinda nice if the release notes mentioned which settings were altered by each installation so that you don't forget to reset the ones
you want to keep as they were. I understand why they keep resetting summon-related options, I just want to them to minimize the
    inconvenience of that for owners.
  • Jul 22, 2016
    RogerHScott
It has been well established that every single release weakens regen. The cars that have received lots of updates now have negative regen -- they speed up when you take your foot off the accelerator! ;)
  • Jul 22, 2016
    KZKZ
Not a good situation if the collision warning system is activated before AP detects anything. Talk about mode confusion.
  • Jul 23, 2016
    ecarfan
You are exaggerating. CU recommended a change to the way that the Summon command is initiated. Tesla responded and did it. That was a one time occurrence.

And to the OP: if you are reluctant to install the latest firmware update because you are afraid that you will lose AP, at this point I see nothing indicating that Tesla is going to take AP away. Nothing.

There is a sharp right turn on the way to my house along a road with a 35 mph speed limit. I have been regularly driving this with TACC set on 35 and have found that if I turn off the TACC just as I pass the speed limit sign before the sharp turn, that the car will slow to the perfect speed for the sharp turn with no other intervention. Except the last time I did this, it was going too fast and I had to apply the brakes. I actually checked my regen setting after this because I thought it might have somehow changed and I'd been feeling like it was weaker during my drive. This was the day after an update, but I didn't think to blame the update at the time. If it's not the re-gen then perhaps they have tweaked the delay between TACC off and regen starting.

Since it is common for folks to think their re-gen is reduced, could it be that updates sometimes create a glitch that while the car displays the previous "standard" re-gen setting, it is actually using the low setting until you change the setting, or reboot or something like that? I'm going to reboot my center console just in case. If it is a common complaint maybe there is something to it.
  • Jul 24, 2016
    msnow
I have no idea if they changed the regen settings or not. Obviously there are no real release notes to look at to confirm. All we have is the data from @Ingineer as to which modules were updated on a particular release. As you are aware and what I learned since joining TMC is that after almost every update (and there have been dozens and dozens since I've been around here) there are people who are convinced that regen has been reduced. Personally I have never felt changes to regen but the complaint continues.

I see to be stuck at 2.24.30 that was pushed to my Classic MS on 19-June-2016. Over a month and numerous updates have been pushed since then. I wonder why I have not received a new one. This update seems to be the beginning of my 3G connectivity issues. I wish I could figure out how to get something more recent with having over and hour drive to the SC.
  • Jul 26, 2016

My classic has the same 2.24.30 and I don't have any connectivity issues. Neither have any connectivity issues been reported with that build here. If rebooting doesn't help, perhaps you have a hardware problem.
Newer updates seem directed a AP cars. Not everyone gets every build.

Before update, it was working great,

    Hey! that's what I had!!
Fused L4 & L5 and added two bars with 5 screws. UGH
By the way, I THOUGHT I had checked the option to turn off the 'Hold" feature but I goofed it.
The option was still on. Great if you use the android app, car moves as long as you hold the phone button
Stops the summon action when you lift your finger
With this feature 'ON' and If you use the fob, the car turns on, then goes right back off. Just the problem having.
So, if you use just the fob, keep it off.
This sounds does contrary, because you DO, press the fob twice and hold it on the second press,
to activate the summon feature by the fob

Received 2.28.60 late last night. I installed and ready to go this AM. No release notes other than the generic "Fixed Stuff" message. No noticeable differences or new features identified. I did notice that it acquired 3G connectivity before I hit the end of the drive way. Previously it had been taking minutes, hours, and sometimes a reboot to get it to connect to 3G. We will see how it goes over the next several days.

Same for me after update 2.28.60, have to reboot regularly the center screen to get 3G connectivity back !
  • Aug 10, 2016
    markn455
Yeah, I started having to reboot regularly to get it back before 2.28.60. It seemed to have been corrected when that update was pushed out. However, just wishful thinking because it's just as bad on this build. Since there are no release notes, we can't tell if that was intended to be one of the bug fixes.
